Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
Oviparous is a big word! What does it mean? In this one time class, students will listen to a non fiction story called Chickens Aren't The Only Ones by Ruth Heller with an experienced teacher. Students will be encouraged to interact with the text and make predictions, discuss oviparous animals, make text to self connections, and add to the discussion. The students will then follow directions to create a directed drawing project step by step with the teacher of oviparous animals. The students will be encouraged to add labels to their non fiction drawings. The students will have a collage of oviparous animals with labels when the project is complete. The students will be encouraged to share their project with the new friends in class, if they feel comfortable. Chickens aren't the only ones! Who else is oviparous?

Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.

My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕

I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power.

However, I always incorporate math, writing, drawing, social studies and science into all of my lessons, as well.

I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.

There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw. Let's get started!

Enroll your Early Childhood Education student and your child will further develop an academic foundation and gain academic confidence with a love of learning. Your child will be a life time reader!

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or if you are looking for different times or dates for classes.
I can't wait to work with you and your child and further a passion for learning!
