Need more practice solving math story problems? In this ongoing class, students will participate in a small group guided math talk about math story problems using all four operations. Each math problem will have multiple solution pathways to encourage students to reason abstractly. We will focus on breaking down what the problems are asking us to do. Students will learn how to break down a story problem to identify what they know and what they need to find. Students will be able to make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. Students will be able to share their thinking and reasoning about their answers. Students will practice discussing math by asking and answering questions of peers.
I have over ten years of experience teaching elementary math in public schools. I also have training in guided math discussions or math talks as well as in best practices for math instruction for elementary students.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
