Problem types will involve adding to and taking from situations, putting together and taking apart situations, and situations involving comparisons. Week 3Lesson 3Drawing Multiplication & Division ModelsStudents will learn to represent multiplication and division word problems using models such as tape diagrams to visualize the steps of the problem. Problem types will involve total unknown (multiplication), number of groups unknown (quotative division), and the size of groups unknown (partitive division), finding the area of a rectangle, and comparison word problems. Week 4Lesson 4Solving Word Problems Using EquationsStudents will be introduced to using equations with a letter to represent the unknown. Students will learn how to write equations that align with the two-step word problems.  Week 5Lesson 5Estimating SolutionsStudents will learn to estimate solutions to two-step word problems using rounding before solving them. Week 6Lesson 6Assessing Reasonableness of AnswersStudents will learn to assess the reasonableness of their answers to two-step word problems using mental computation and estimation strategies. Week 7Lesson 7Practice & Real-World ApplicationApply problem-solving skills to real-world scenarios involving two-step word problems. Week 8Lesson 8Share, Practice & ReviewStudents will share their real-world solutions using two-step word problems. Students will be provided with opportunities to review and practice solving various two-step word problems using the skills and strategies learned. `
`Students will solve two-step word problems with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They will use equations with a letter for the unknown and check answers using mental math and estimation, including rounding. (3.OA.D.8)Students will use addition & subtraction within 100 to solve one- & two-step word problems involving adding, taking away, combining, separating, & comparing. They will represent problems with drawings & equations using a symbol for the unknown. (2.OA.A.1)`
