In this 3-day course, students will build on their pre-algebra skills by learning to solve subtraction problems involving negative numbers.

1 hour per week. A one-page, double-sided worksheet will be provided for students to complete after the first meeting of the class. Students will be expected to either scan or take a picture of their completed sheet and send it back to me before the beginning of the last meeting of the class.Assessment
Students will be assessed by their performance on the homework, as well as by their performance on the quiz in the last day of class. Student performance will be reported back to the parent.Class Experience

Intermediate Level
In this class, students will learn to solve subtraction problems involving negative numbers. Students will receive a handout before the class begins that summarizes all of the tips and tricks that the class will teach. In the first meeting of the class, students will learn how to solve problems in the form of positive-minus-negative (i.e. 2-(-1)), negative-minus-positive (i.e. (-2)-1), and negative-minus-negative (i.e. (-2)-(-2)). We will work through examples of each situation with single digit numbers. Students will be assigned a homework sheet after this meeting. In the second meeting of the class, we will work through more examples of subtraction problems involving negative numbers. This time, however, not only will we work with single-digit numbers, but we will also branch out into problems with double- and triple-digit numbers. In the third meeting of the class, students will take the lead and solve problems on their own. We will then work through to the correct answer together. The homework assigned after the first meeting of class will be due before this meeting starts. Students should be confident with adding and subtracting positive numbers, and students should be familiar with adding negative numbers. If they are not, please consider enrolling in "Subtract It! Using Triple Digit Numbers" and/or "Crossing to the Other Side... of Zero! Addition Using Negative Numbers" first. Please contact me if you have any concerns.

I am a nuclear engineering graduate from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor's in Science. I began graduate school for a PhD in Nuclear Engineering, but due to health issues I decided to leave school and pursue my passions elsewhere--like here!
Thus, it may go without saying that a lot of classes I offer are math and science (particularly nuclear science) related.
