Class Experience

As a Computer Tech teacher, it has become quite apparent how necessary it is for learners of all ages to acquire technological skills specific to video creation. Many students will need these skills throughout their education as it allows them more flexibility for presentations, plus, it’s also a fun way to bring their creativity to life on the “big screen”! Of course, many students may simply want to learn how to create beautiful videos which can be used to provide long-lasting memories of their family and friends, or to impress their future teachers, universities, and more. Many learners have a desire to acquire video creation skills as a means of improving their overall understanding of computer applications and technological abilities; show off their talent, or just for the simple love of learning a variety of computer creation techniques.
Note: This class is for any learner, no matter their previous computer knowledge. It will start out with basic explanations, walk-throughs and examples, then will ask the learners to work with teacher to complete the various techniques learned, and will finally allow the student the opportunity to do it on their own to show mastery.
*Students will need a PC, Desktop, or Laptop for this class.
Schedule Outline:
Class 1: For our first day, we will take a look at WeVideo & be introduced to this video creation application. Students will see a variety of examples of how we can create with this application. Students will create a Log In for this app & then we will create a folder for our class, and begin learning how to find & download images, which will be used as we learn these new video-creation techniques and skills.
*Learners are encouraged to have several of their family or friends’ pictures available for this class, however, if these are not readily available, we will simply find “free” images on the internet during our class to use while learning this technique. We will specifically learn how to create an image folder on the computer & how to download or copy pictures to it.

Class 2: During this class, students will discover several tools using the WeVideo application and how to use them as we upload/import the videos. We will focus on Media content, how to find Media, and how to use that Media to begin creating a video. We will also learn how to Save our work.

Class 3: Today’s class will focus on learning how to create & modify Backgrounds. We will insert Background Slides into our video, as well as add Text to these slides. We will also focus on Text types and positions of text & how these can add to the overall “finished” product.

Class 4: During this class, students will discover Transitions & how to use them to create smooth interchanges in their videos. We will learn how to adjust the size/length of pictures & background slides by zooming in and cropping, then we will add in amazing transitions to create more professional-looking videos.

Class 5: Today we learn about Sound/Audio. We will discover how to add in audio clips, record audio, or choose from a list of different music or sound effects available through the application. We will also add additional layers to our video, allowing us to manipulate the audio & visual affects with more precise layering.

Class 6: Let’s Put it All Together!
During this class, students will begin building their Family & Friends Video. Teacher will work with learners on a one-to-one basis & use their questions to help all learners in the class as each learner begins to create their own, unique Family & Friends Video.
Areas we will focus on completing today are: Photo Uploads and Arrangement, Size of each picture, Title Creation, Wrap-up/Conclusion Creation.

Class 7: Let’s Put it All Together!
During this class, students will continue building their Family & Friends Video. Teacher will work with learners on a one-to-one basis & use their questions to help the other learners in the class as each learner continues creating their own, unique Family & Friends Video.
Areas we will focus on completing today are: Backgrounds, Transitions, sizes of each of these, as well as text to include on backgrounds or pictures/images.
Class 8: Let’s Put it All Together! During this class, students will complete building their Family & Friends Video. Teacher will work with learners on a one-to-one basis & use their questions to help the other learners in the class as each learner finalizes their own, unique Family & Friends Video.
Areas we will focus on today are: Adding in Audio, Music, & Sound Effects. We will Save Video & then Finish the Video. Students will learn how to choose a Thumbnail, download their newly-created video & how to share it with their friends & family. If time, they may choose to share their final video with the class or in the Outschool Classroom!
The teacher will use a variety of presentation & teaching tools, including walking through instructions while demonstrating, videos, hands-on practice and demonstrations of the tools, and more, as we have fun learning how to Create Videos with WeVideo.
*No prerequisite course or knowledge is necessary. However, due to the necessity of learners to use a computer, a parent should be available if they do not know how to turn it on, use a mouse, or do simple tasks on it. Teacher will be walking them through the basics of how to create a folder to hold all of their images, how to upload, and then use their images to create the video; however, if learner is not at least familiar with using a mouse or computer, parental assistance may be needed, especially the first day.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the skills, tools, and applications necessary to create their own, unique video. Specifically, the student will learn how to create a folder for images; how to upload/download these images to use as media; how to save work within the application; how to create & modify backgrounds & transitions, as well as add & modify text; how to record audio clips, as well as use music and other audio files; create introductions and concluding slides; as well as finalize their video, and then downloading and sharing their new creation.
*These video-creating skills will be invaluable throughout the learners’ life.

I have been a Business and Computer Applications & Technology teacher for more than 11 years, and have used a variety of video-creating applications during that time. I have used WeVideo for a variety of uses in my educational classes, as well as for numerous advertising campaigns for my own businesses, as an entrepreneur. I have taught my students how to use WeVideo for years as it is a simple-to-use video creation tool, and it has been a vital instrument both inside & outside of the classroom for me personally, as a means of allowing others to learn new information in a fun way, and keeping my memories in a fun, professional format. It is such a joy to teach others how to use video-creating applications, such as WeVideo, for their own life too!
