In this crash course will we be discovering the following skills! Order of operation Combining like terms Opposite Operation distributive property x on both sides of the equation This class is designed to give your learner a "crash course" in the topics above. The class is not designed to teach the topics for the first time. Students should have been introduced to the topics above. In this class, we will go over the topics and identify the areas of weakness that are keeping the learner from fully understanding the topics. Then through critical thinking and repetition student will begin to overcome these issues. The course is also good to re-introduce students to these skills if it has been a while since they learned them. My personal style is discovery. Before this class your student should know basic operations with whole numbers. How to round whole numbers and decimals to place values. Be able to model part and whole with fractions and decimals. Course Breakdown (subject to change) Before attending this class student should have a fluent knowledge of basic math. If your student is struggling with this check out this course before the class begins. https://www.udemy.com/teas-6-skills-and-concepts-number-skills-part-1basic-math/learn/v4/overview No homework will be assigned. This is a one day only class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
For the past 4.5 years, I have worked at a community college. During that time my job consisted of instructing math classes and working with students below college level math and English. During this time I saw a lot of students who were not prepared for the discovery and problem-solving element of math in college. Most students struggle with middle school math concepts in real-world applications. Without this foundation of math fluency and problem-solving student struggle with harder math concepts. As my child starts middle math the urgency of making sure she has a proper foundation of math became real. I decided to homeschool and joined this community of home-schoolers.
I believe all students can succeed when they are taught in a style they understand. I would describe my style as Charlotte Mason or discovery, but I feel students need a mix of drill or classical method for foundational math concepts. If you believe that this style is how your learner understands, then I encourage you to sign up for my course.
