Intermediate Level
This is a 60-minute class designed to help remind students how to add and subtract unlike fractions. Students should have worked with unlike fractions before this class. This class is best for those students who have learned unlike fractions but struggled or have forgotten how to solve. In this class you will learn how to add and subtract unlike fractions that are proper, improper, and mixed numbers. Students will fill out a “Quick Sheet” of how to do these skills so that they can keep reminding themselves of the skill in the future. For review classes the structure is as follows: -I will review the skill. - I will model the skill in the form of an arithmetic question. - We will work through a question together. - Students will do a question by themselves. - Fill out the “Quick Sheet.” The types of questions we will review are: - Finding a common denominator - Adding/Subtracting proper fractions - Adding/ Subtracting improper fractions - Adding/ Subtracting mixed numbers If there is extra time we will do some bonus real-world problems with fractions. Objectives: Add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators using strategies or the standard algorithm. Bonus Objective: Solve real-world addition and subtraction by using equations, models, or drawings, and strategies based on place value of properties of operations to represent the problem.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I taught developmental math and ran tutoring centers on four college campuses for 4 years before coming to Outschool. I started at Outschool in 2018 with a goal of testing if a student has one Math instructor for pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. I took a break from Outschool during the spring but I am back!
