The Review Before School: Multiplying and Dividing Fractions

In this class we will review multiplying and dividing fractions. Student should have already been exposed to the skill but need a refresher or extra help. This class is also a great way to sample my teaching style.

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Intermediate Level
This is a 60-minute class designed to help remind students how to Multiply and divide fractions. Students should have worked with multiplying and dividing fractions before this class. This class is best for those students who have learned how to multiply and divide fractions but struggled or have forgotten how to solve.
In this class you will learn how to change an improper fraction into a mixed number, how to change a mixed number into an improper fraction, how to multiple different types of numbers and fraction, and how to divide different types of number and fraction. If there is time we will do a bonus skill of work problems with fractions. Students will fill out a “Quick Sheet” of how to do these skills so that they can keep reminding themselves of the skill in the future.
For review classes the structure is as follows:
	-I will review the skill.
	- I will model the skill in the form of an arithmetic question.
	- We will work through a question together.
	- Students will do a question by themselves.
	- Fill out the “Quick Sheet.”
The types of questions we will review are:
-	Changing an improper fraction into a mixed number
-	Changing a mixed number into an improper fraction
-	Multiplying different numbers and fractions (example a whole number and proper fraction or a mixed number and proper fraction)
-	Dividing different numbers and fractions (example a whole number and a proper fraction or a mixed number and proper fraction)

If there is extra time we will do some bonus real-world problems with fractions.

Objectives:
Use visual fraction models to multiply a fraction by a fraction or a whole number.
Use visual fraction models and numbers to divide a fraction by a fraction or a whole number.
** If time permits we will do the following bonus objectives.
Bonus: Solve real-world problems involving division of fractions and mixed numbers.
Bonus: Solve real-world problems involving multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I taught developmental math and ran tutoring centers on four college campuses for 4 years before coming to Outschool. I started at Outschool in 2018 with a goal of testing if a student has one Math instructor for pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. I took a break from Outschool during the spring, but I am back!
