Foundations of Algebra is designed to give students a strong start in their Algebra I journey. This four-session course covers essential algebraic concepts that are critical for success in math. Each 60-minute session is packed with engaging lessons, interactive problem-solving, and practical applications to help students understand and retain what they learn. Whether students are preparing for Algebra I, need a refresher, or want to strengthen their foundational skills, this course will provide the clarity and support they need. Students will learn to: Understand and simplify algebraic expressions. Solve one-step and two-step equations. Solve multi-step equations, including those with variables on both sides. Apply algebraic methods to solve word problems and real-life scenarios. Each class begins with a brief warm-up to review prior knowledge, followed by a focused lesson on the day's topic. The main part of the session includes guided instruction, where students will practice examples alongside me. The last portion of the class involves interactive problem-solving, where students apply what they've learned to practice problems and real-world examples. Each session ends with a recap and time for questions. I use a combination of direct instruction, interactive discussions, and collaborative problem-solving. Visual aids, digital slides, and whiteboard demonstrations help illustrate key concepts and keep learners engaged. I incorporate practice exercises and real-world applications to reinforce learning and make it relevant. My teaching style is supportive, engaging, and adaptive to student needs. I focus on making each lesson accessible by breaking down complex ideas into manageable steps. I encourage questions and active participation, creating an environment where students feel comfortable exploring and learning from their mistakes. Positive reinforcement and constructive feedback are key elements of my instruction. Learners will have plenty of interaction throughout each session. I encourage students to ask questions during lessons and engage in discussions during practice exercises. The class is structured to include direct teaching followed by student participation in solving problems. Students will have opportunities to share their strategies and collaborate with peers during guided practice. Outcome By the end of Crash Course 1, students will have a stronger foundation in algebraic expressions, equations, and problem-solving strategies, preparing them for more advanced Algebra I concepts and future math courses.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Virginia Teaching Certificate in Mathematics
I am a certified middle school math teacher with over five years of experience teaching math to students aged 11-14. I currently teach at Henrico Virtual Academy within Henrico County Public Schools, where I have spent the last four years developing and delivering comprehensive math instruction in both in-person and virtual formats. My expertise includes teaching Algebra I, pre-algebra, and geometry, with a strong focus on making these foundational math concepts accessible and engaging.
I have designed and implemented standards-aligned curricula that meet the Common Core requirements, ensuring students build a solid mathematical foundation. Additionally, I regularly create and use assessments to evaluate student progress and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs. My background in remote teaching has honed my ability to effectively engage students through interactive lectures, discussions, and digital tools, fostering an environment where students can confidently develop their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
I am committed to continuous professional development and regularly participate in math education workshops and training sessions to stay updated with best practices and innovative teaching strategies. My goal is to help students see math as both a practical tool and an exciting subject that they can master with the right guidance and support.
