Welcome to “High School Algebra I - Common Core,” an interactive and comprehensive course designed to provide students aged 11-14 with a solid foundation in algebra. This course covers critical topics such as solving linear equations, understanding functions, graphing, polynomials, and quadratic equations, all aligned with Common Core standards to ensure students are prepared for future math courses. My teaching approach is highly interactive and engaging. I utilize a blend of live lectures, visual slides, and collaborative whiteboard sessions to illustrate key concepts and ensure students can visualize and understand the material. Video clips and math games may be included for specific topics to reinforce learning in a fun and memorable way. Each class will end with time for questions and a brief review to solidify understanding. My teaching style is student-centered, supportive, and adaptive. I believe in creating a learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring math concepts at their own pace. By connecting algebra to real-world situations, I aim to make lessons meaningful and relatable. Encouragement and positive reinforcement are key aspects of my instruction, helping students build confidence and a growth mindset. Interaction is a core component of this class. Students will engage in discussions, participate in problem-solving activities, and work collaboratively on math challenges. I encourage active participation during lessons and offer opportunities for students to work through problems together and share their strategies. Feedback will be provided regularly, ensuring that every learner receives the guidance they need to succeed. By the end of the course, students will have a deep understanding of Algebra I concepts, improved problem-solving skills, and the confidence to tackle more advanced math courses.
Learning Goals
Understand and Simplify Algebraic Expressions: Students will learn to simplify and evaluate algebraic expressions using order of operations and the properties of algebra.
Solve Linear Equations and Inequalities: Students will be able to solve one-step, two-step, and multi-step equations and inequalities and apply these skills to word problems.
