Cookin' Like a Chef: Chicken Pot Pie

Students will learn the 2nd Mother Sauce Veloute and create their own chicken pot pie

Class experience

Students will be able to create veloute sauce and think about ways it can be used to create unique meal options.  They will also be introduced to some essential knife skills and how to hold a knife properly.
Mis En Place
1 small pot
1 larger pot
quiche or pie pan or individual ramekins
rolling pin
puff pastry and 1 egg
2 chicken breasts or rotisserie chicken shredded
2 carrots
2 celery stalks
1 large onion
2 potatoes
1 cup of green beans
Veloute Sauce
1-quart chicken stock
4 TBL butter
4 TBL flour
salt and white pepper
fresh parsley, thyme, and a bay leaf

We will be placing the "stew" into the pan and cover with the puff pastry. Bake at 400 F for 20-25 minutes until golden
We will be using the stove and knives.  It is essential an adult be present to ensure their child's safety.  If you are concerned about them using a knife look for a cutting glove.  Cutting gloves are mesh steel that can be used to ensure their hand is safe while chopping.
