Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Join us for an exciting, ongoing coding class where young learners can unleash their creativity and bring their own games or virtual stories to life using the CodeSpark App! This class is designed to introduce children aged 5-9 to the world of computer science in a fun and engaging way. No reading required— CodeSpark’s word-free interface makes it perfect for pre-readers and young coders.

What You Need to Know:

 1. Introduction to Coding: This class serves as an introduction to computer science, tailored for beginners aged 5-9.

2. CodeSpark App: The app is completely word-free, ideal for young learners who are still developing their reading skills.

3. Free Access: CodeSpark is free to use in my classroom for most countries. If you’re unable to join the classroom, a subscription may be required, but a 7-day free trial is available.

4. Classroom Code: After enrolling in my class, you’ll receive a unique class code to join our CodeSpark classroom.

5. Device Setup: For the best experience, please use CodeSpark on a separate device from Zoom. Ensure your devices are set up before class begins. If you need the classroom code, please message me in advance.

Class Structure:

Each session is divided into three engaging parts:

- Discussion (5-10 mins): We’ll introduce and discuss the theme or task of the day.

- Creating (30 mins): Learners will design and build their own game or story, using the tools and commands in CodeSpark.

- Social Play: Students can explore, solve puzzles, or share their creations in the “Explore,” “Puzzles,” or “Made by Kids” sections of CodeSpark.

Class Sections:

Choose from one of the following times:

Mondays at 7:00 PM EST
Fridays at 5:30 PM EST
Saturdays at 8:00 PM EST

Each section offers a slightly different experience, so pick the one that works best for your schedule!

Weekly Theme:

Each week, we’ll explore different coding concepts and challenges:

Week 3: Create an Adventure Game
Week 4: Create a Story

New Enrollment Requirement:

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
With over 10 years of experience teaching children in both small group and 1-on-1 settings, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to each class. My background includes working in both classroom and home environments, where I’ve developed the ability to tailor lessons to meet the unique needs of each learner. This experience allows me to create a supportive and effective learning environment, whether we're focusing on phonics, reading comprehension, math, or coding.

I hold a certificate of completion for codeSpark Ignite, an online professional development course designed to help PreK-5 educators teach young students the basics of Computer Science and the foundations of computational thinking. This training, coupled with my extensive experience, has equipped me with the skills and confidence to effectively teach coding and computer science concepts to young learners.

I am deeply committed to helping learners succeed and believe that no learner should be left behind. My teaching approach is learner-centered, combining patience, encouragement, and interactive methods to ensure that each child gains confidence and mastery in the subject area. Whether your child needs extra help, a deeper understanding of the material, or just a little boost in confidence, I am here to support them every step of the way.
