Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 1
This class is designed for emerging readers who are ready to dive into books. They do not need to know how to read yet, but observation and listening skills are exercised. In each class, a recording of me reading the Clifford book of the week will be shown (with permission from Scholastic). I will ask comprehension questions and guide the reader in finding the answers. At the end of each reading, we will discuss key literature components: characters, main idea, title, problem/ solution.

A list of the comprehension questions will be posted to the Outschool classroom. Each learner has the option of sending typed responses (with help from an adult) or video responses. I will interact with the students by responding to their answers. Each week I will also post an optional writing prompt. Students can complete the sentence and draw their response on the given template.
Book 1: Clifford Goes to Dog School
Book 2: Clifford's Family
Book 3: Oops, Clifford!
Book 4: Clifford's Tricks
Learning Goals
Students will be exposed to literature components for the rest of their lives! This is a great way for young readers to become familiar with reading vocabulary.
- Who were the main characters in the story? What were they like?
- What was the story mainly about?
- What is the title of the story? What does the title and cover tell us about the book?
- What were the problems in this story? Were there any solutions?
