Class Experience

Character Camp is a 5 day, 1 week camp where learners become campers, meet daily with friends, and have fun learning about having good character!

🔵What will be covered?
In Character Camp, we will be learning about 5 different character qualities...

◾honesty
◾attentiveness
◾responsibility
◾respect
◾patience

During camp, will learn to understand exactly what each quality is, how each of these are important values, and how to relate them in everyday life.

To help campers understand the concepts more thoroughly, I will introduce each character quality through the study of nature and showcase an animal that displays the character quality for the day. Not only will this add to the fun of class but it will aid campers with relating ideas and principles to nature and themselves.

During the week, we will read books, make crafts, and have time to discuss ideas. We will also memorize a poem to help connect learners with these concepts. I will also have some optional materials that parents might want to review to continue learning about this topic after the camp has ended.

🔵What is provided for the week?
Before camp begins, campers will get a Camp Card and daily will receive stamps from our animal friends. Campers can add the stamps to their card as they like. After each lesson, I will send a packet that will relate to the topic and have other things to try at home. After camp is over, campers will receive a camp picture with our new friends!

🔵What is expected each week?
Learners are expected to be respectful and participate in group discussions.

🔵Ages or grades of learners-
This class is designed to allow students of various ages to participate, however, I would suggest the average range is 7-11. I have had learners outside this range, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

🔵How is this different from your other Character Classes?
This is a camp, designed to feel more like a genuine camp experience (as much as we can do in an hour online), however, my other character classes done over the span of weeks and are more in depth. They also do not include the camp theme.

🔵NOTE TO PARENTS: I do not currently have classes available to be auto-scheduled, however, please reach out to me if you would like to schedule a time for this class that is unlisted. I am also available for 1 on 1 teaching, though please note that the costs are different for 1:1 versus group classes

*Crafts involve simple basic supplies of paper or paper plates, crayons or markers, and scissors. Activities can include videos and games.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been a teacher on Outschool since 2020 and I teach on 2 additional online platforms. I have a biology background, however, I studied US and World History for 3 years in college, as well as 2 years of Chinese. I have also trained in a non-credited format, for many years, with an author and speaker who specializes in teaching children character qualities.

I have always enjoyed teaching. My first teaching position was in Moscow, Russia, teaching English as a second language. Since then, I’ve taught in various settings which include a cooperative, a preschool, and as a tutor in the areas of math, science, and English. I also am a homeschool mom!

I have taught this class to different groups at a cooperative, for both lower and upper elementary students. I enjoy teaching a subject or principle and including different areas of study along with the original idea.
