Class Experience

DNA and genetics are fascinating topics in the world of science. In this class, we will discuss the basics of DNA including the 4 DNA bases, the way DNA is sequenced, and how your genetic makeup makes you unique during class, we will discuss, take notes, draw, and build your very own DNA model! I will see you in the lab!

Learning Goals

Define DNA, chromosome, and nucleus on a worksheet.
Pair the correct DNA bases: Adenine and Thymine, Cytosine and Guanine. 
Create a model of DNA using licorice, toothpicks and marshmallows.
Next Generation Science Standard: HS-LS3-1. Ask questions to clarify relationships about the role of DNA and chromosomes in coding the instructions for characteristic traits passed from parents to offspring.

A hard copy or digital copy of the worksheet which will be provided prior to class.

For DNA model: 
2 pieces of licorice
12 toothpicks
9 pink marshmallows
9 green marshmallows
9 yellow marshmallows
9 orange marshmallows
