Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
This course aims to prepare students for AP Calculus BC, covering all of the content in Calculus AB over the course of 10 weeks, and introducing students to some of the topics specific to calculus BC.

Week 1: Limits and the limit definition of the derivative
Week 2: Differentiation rules
Week 3: Implicit differentiation and related rates
Week 4: Applications of the derivative
Week 5: Riemann approximation
Week 6: The antiderivative and relation to area; finding area between curves
Week 7: Integration via u-substitution and integration by parts
Week 8: Other applications of the integral
Week 9: Review of polar coordinates and polar curves
Week 10: Introduction to polar integrals

Structurally, we will have two live meetings per week, each 55 minutes. The first half of class will typically be spent covering material (with worked problems), using a Socratic approach to maximize student engagement. The second half of the class will cover AP style problems related to the class content. Classes will be recorded in case of any absences, and I'll be responsive to any questions out of class through the class board.

By week 8 of the course, we will have covered most of the material for Calculus AB, so students will be encouraged to take an optional calculus AB practice exam. Based on the results, I will be able to offer a personalized study plan focused on any remaining weaknesses in AB topics.
Learning Goals
By the end of the course, students should be able to obtain a 4 or 5 on calculus AB practice exams, and feel confident to tackle calculus BC.
