Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Welcome to the wonderful world of calculus! This introductory calculus class is a very small group class of 2 to 6 learners.

Have you ever wondered how you would calculate the slope of a curve? Sign up for my Calculus Crash Course 1 to find out the answer to this and so much more!

In this class, I introduce you to the initial concepts of calculus including limits, tangents, secants, basic derivatives and select applications to physics. I introduce concepts in a simple, fun and straightforward way - making it fun and easy to learn calculus! You will have ample opportunity to practice the concepts with problem sets that I provide each week.

This class is taught four times per week over four weeks for a total of sixteen hours of class time. This class is meant to cover the initial topics taught in calculus in order to prepare you for further study of calculus. This class is suitable for students in honours, AP, IB, dual enrollment, homeschoolers and those preparing for college calculus courses.

Calculus is a required course of study for students planning to enter the sciences, medicine, engineering, computer science and some business programs. Now is the time to invest in your child's education and get a head start on this difficult area of study with my class, Calculus Crash Course 1!

It is recommended that you have a strong knowledge of basic and advanced functions such as linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, inverse, reciprocal, higher order polynomial functions and trigonometric functions.

I teach by doing worked examples with lots of student interaction while I complete the sample problems during class. I give you an opportunity to attempt the problems in class before I show you how to do them. Every week, I also assign problem sets for you to do on your own based on the material taught in class
Learning Goals
Students learn the most commonly taught introductory concepts in calculus and are prepared to thrive in calculus.

Supply List
I provide packages of problem sets for students to complete outside of class each week. If you have a tablet and pen, please have that ready for class so that you can write and interact during the lesson. If you don't have a tablet, it is not mandatory and class is still fun and interactive and very effective without it.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I studied Biochemistry at Queen's University and I have eighteen years of teaching experience. In that time, I have helped hundreds of students succeed!

I am the owner of a small tutoring business which I have operated for over fifteen years.

I specialize in teaching algebra, pre-algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, foundations of math, advanced functions, calculus, chemistry, physics, math and science at the middle school, secondary and post-secondary level.

My teaching style is methodical and I focus on improving the students' grades. In fact, several of my most highly motivated students have recently been accepted to medical school in the UK, directly from grade 12!

I have worked with students from many different private and public secondary and post-secondary institutions across Canada including Shawnigan Lake School, Brentwood College School, Queen's University, UBC and many others.

I have years of experience teaching students with learning disabilities including: dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, concussions and others.

I have worked with students from all over the world and I am sensitive to cultural differences and adjust my teaching style to suit my students.

In addition to my professional experience, I also homeschooled my little niece during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have been teaching her almost daily since she was four and now she is nine and she is reading, writing and doing math in two languages!

On Outschool, I offer classes in:
