What's included

32 live meetings
40 in-class hours
Homework
2-4 hours per week. Students will be assigned weekly homework, with solutions released the following week. Homework will be self-graded, but I will be happy to discuss homework questions at any time.
Assessment
This course will have 6 timed unit assessments, with a particular aim of familiarizing students with AP-style questions. At the end of the course, students will complete a full AP practice exam as the final exam.

Class Experience

US Grade 10 - 12
In this course, we will cover the material in Calculus AB, with an aim to prepare you for the AP exam. The course will consist of 30 live lectures, divided into 6 units (Note that the AP curriculum is divided into 8 units - we will cover those units, but units 2 & 3 are consolidated, as are units 4 & 5):
1. Limits and continuity
2. The derivative
3. Applications of the derivative
4. The integral
5. Applications of the integral
6. Differential Equations
Each class will consist of 30-45 minutes, broken into 10-15 minute mini-lessons, in which I'll introduce the material. Stylistically, I'll be using a combination of direct exposition and targeted questions aimed at guiding students to a deeper understanding. Each topic will then be followed with immediate applications, with a focus on AP multiple choice and free response problems. At all times, students will be highly encouraged to ask questions.
Finally, with an aim to increasing student engagement, I will require that students have their video on for the duration of the class. I can make a limited number of exceptions in extenuating circumstances, if communicated in advance.

Unit 1: Limits and Continuity
Lesson 1:
Instantaneous Change and Limits
We'll begin by motivating the study of differential calculus in the context of instantaneous change. We will then introduce limits as a method of finding instantaneous rates. Finally, we will learn to analyze right, left, and overall limits graphically.
75 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Limit Properties
In this class, we'll look at the linearity of the limit, and limits of products and quotients. This class will meld into lesson 3, so we'll begin introducing some algebraic techniques for evaluating limits.
75 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Algebraic Limits
Picking up from week 2, we'll look at finding limits via factorization, conjugate multiplication, and squeeze theorem.
75 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Continuity and the IVT
We will look at the three conditions for continuity at a point, working through both graphical and algebraic applications. We will then introduce the intermediate value theorem.

Pre-Requisites
Students are expected to have taken precalculus prior to this course. However, I am happy to make exceptions on a case-by-case basis, if a student is able to demonstrate proficiency with a diagnostic exam.
