Class

Average rating:4.9Number of reviews:(206)
In this one time workshop, students will learn how to create 3 different kinds of homemade books

Class experience

Students will see example of many different homemade books, including not only the design of the format for the book but also different ideas for filling the books and having the books be a form of art themselves.

They will see a Jacob's ladder book, an accordion book, a star/snake book, a 1 page book, a traditionally bound book among the examples shown.

They will learn how to create:
Star/snake book
1 Page book
A book bound with a pencil/chopstick
An accordion book

They will have these books to fill as they please or to be inspired to create their own new designs for homemade books!!

I'm an ArtsTherapist and Teaching Artists and have been teaching kids how to make books as a way of containing and continuing their expressions and experiences for many years. I am also a homeschooling mama to 3 kids, who all make their own books <3
paper (both white and colored)
cardstock or thicker paper
scissors
glue stick (you can use regular glue, I find glue sticks work best for bookmaking ... but we use what we have!)
Pencils, pen, colored pencils, oil pastels, markers, whatever you like to work with
chopstick or pencil to bind a book
rubber band

Optional: Brown paper bag, like from a grocery store (If you are low on paper ... you can also use a brown paper bag to create a book!)

Optional: Cardboard (it doesn't have to be super thick or super big, just big enough to be the size of the front of a journal - if we have time, we'll practice wrapping a cover for a book using the cardboard)
