Class Experience

This is a weekly movie making hang out!

Each week we will:

~Learn new movie making skills that relate to the conversations in that week's hang out
~Get a new movie challenge
~Share your movies!
~Chat about movies in general
~Breakdown your favorite scenes and learn the film industries glossary of terms through the process
~Support one another in your movie making endeavors and give feedback and critique from a gentle and creative place.

Let's build a supportive community of the next generation of movie makers!
Let's challenge each other to try out new film and editing skills!
We'll talk about up and coming directors, movies, genres of film

Students will learn the language of movie making and challenges will focus on the skills highlighted each week ... For instance:

We may learn about B Roll and the challenge may be to film a cooking show using baking B Roll or to film a music video paying specific attention to the speed of each clip ... OR ... the skill we learn may be the 360 angle shot in filming and the challenge may be to use this 360 angle shot in a short film ... OR ... we may learn how to film a confrontational conversation and the challenge may be to write the script for a confrontation and film it from one characters point of view ... OR we may learn about lighting and the challenge has to do with allowing lighting to set the tone and mood in a short silent film.

* These are some examples of possible skills we learn and challenges.
* The challenges and skills will be chosen with the students skill levels and needs in mind ... This is a learner-driven movie making hangout. Challenges will be chosen taking into account the experience of students as well as the specific techniques students wish to learn about from week to week. We'll be talking about movies, learning about movies, filming movies and watching each other's movies. The time in class will be derived from a combination of student interest week to week. I have listed above some possible topics and challenges ... though these will shift and change with the needs of the group.

The classroom will also be open to social time where we talk about a film that pushed the boundaries fo a skill or a that inspired an idea in anyone ...

All in all .. this is a fun and informative movie making class tailored to the specific group of students that join ...

This class is open to all skill levels and to anyone who loves film and wants to participate in making their own movies!

I am an arts therapist/intermodal and teaching artist in all modalities . I'm also a homeschooling mama to 3 and have used movie making as a medium for learning at home! It is a wonderful medium to use to engage kids in learning in a multifaceted way. Technology is a way of the future ... let's teach our kids how to embrace it for their own expressions!!
