In this fun three-week, twice-a-week, novel study with Ms. Pamela, we will be looking at story elements, imagery, irony, figurative language and lots more through games and activities while learning vocabulary and reading comprehension.
Class experience
US Grade 4 - 6
In this teacher-led, 40-minute class for three weeks we will explore the story of Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie. Week 1 Class 1 - No reading is required for our first class. We will talk about keeping a vocabulary journal, We will talk about the fantasy and action genres. We will learn a little bit more about the author J. M. Barrie. We will talk about story elements. We will talk about figurative language and why authors use it. We will design a new book cover. Class 2 - Read chapters 1 - 3....
Students will gain a better understanding of the story elements of a story Students will be asked to discuss the story and how it relates to the themes of the book Students will learn several literary terms such as irony, imagery, personification, similes and metaphors and hyperboles Students will increase their vocabulary through vocabulary words Students will increase their reading comprehension through answering questions about the story
Homework Offered
Reading the required segments assigned. (Please do not read ahead so we are all on the same page in our discussions and we can enjoy the book together as a group.) If you do choose to read ahead, please do not share additional information with the class until we get to that part of the book.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
