In this weekly class we use drawing to improve English vocabulary and gain confidence in speaking English. This class is suitable for children who are already learning English and know basic English words they can use to talk about their drawing. *Note: If your child is very shy and does not like to talk on Zoom then this might not be the right conversation class for you. We are going to be talking together in English! Each week there is a new topic to draw and your child will practice a variety of English vocabulary and develop their conversation skills. Please message me if you have any concerns before you sign up. Class Structure: Before each class you receive a vocabulary handout that you can print and use to practice the English words we will use in the art class. At the start of class I present the topic of the week through stimulating images. I will use all the words you need to talk about your picture so you will hear the correct pronunciation. Each topic encourages your child to think in English, learn a variety of new vocabulary and practice what they already know. We draw from our imagination, pictures such as a visit to a farm, a bakery or a journey into space. Everyone is gently encouraged to participate in the conversation as we share ideas and decide what to include in our drawing. Every child works at their own pace, drawing or painting their imaginative response to the topic. In the end everyone is encouraged to show their creation - all in English of course! This art-based method is effective because: - your child is listening to a native speaker and other children speak English - your child learns new vocabulary - your child has the opportunity to talk about fun and familiar things - your child processes English through drawing and painting - you receive a vocabulary handout to practice the topic words before and after class - you will have a beautiful portfolio of art - as well as a child with more confidence in speaking English! *There are 42 different topics we draw and talk about over the next 6 months! We start with the first art topic in January. Once your child is confident they might want to join one of my English writing classes, where they can draw and write in English.

I am a fully qualified teacher and work with school children in the English education system. I have been teaching language for many years, including English, German and French. I know the challenges young learners face when trying to express ideas in a second language and I have found that drawing and writing short stories are excellent techniques that help children make fast progress and gain confidence in writing and speaking. I am experienced working with bilingual children and my creative classes have been highly praised by my school. I am also an English teacher for children in Hong Kong and have hundreds of five-star reviews by happy parents who saw their children's English skills improve.
