Guided Reading will help your learner practice reading proficiency, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. We will be using digital books. Let's have fun reading together!!

*Learners will be introduced to a new story. Your child will do a book walk. This happens before reading. We look at the story title, cover, pictures in the story and make predictions about what the story will be about.
*I will go over some of the challenging words that will be in the story to help make the text more familiar for learners. I will model a reading strategy for learners. For example, using letter sounds, or blends, breaking words into parts, using pictures to help solve tricky words.
*Learners will take turns reading aloud from a digital story, implementing reading strategies when needed with support from me. *After reading, learners will work on comprehension skills by answering questions about the story.
*We will write a sentence about the story. I will model writing on screen. Your learner be asked to copy the sentence down.
*We will play a digital vocabulary game.

A small group will help give your learner more opportunity to practice the concepts from this class. Please take a look at the following list of book examples below this listing to see if this class is a good fit for your learner. Your learner does not have to be in this grade to take this class. Your learner is welcome to take this class if they are reading at a grade 1 level. I choose engaging and meaningful activities to help support your learner's literacy development, fostering a joy for reading.

In each class, I will ask your learner several comprehension questions to help support his or her learning. Each class will have different comprehension questions. Here is a list of some examples:
* How does the character feel? What words or descriptions does the author give to support your answers?
* What are you wondering? What questions do you have?
* Predict what will happen next.
* What caused (character in this chapter) to .....? What was the effect of ....?
* What is the main feeling of the story?
* Summarize what you read. What's the most important part?
* How do Jack & Annie feel about their adventure?
* How does each character react to....?
* What do you think this word means?
* Why did the character say....?
* How are ____ & ____ similar? How are they different?
* Did the character change? Why?
* Is the title a good title for the story? Why or why not?
* Do you have any connections to the story?
* What was the problem in the story? What was the solution to the problem?
* What is the main idea of the story?
* What is the setting of the story?

Please note book levels will be adjusted based on class needs. Digital books are written by Aylin Claahsen
