In this class, students will learn the basics of conducting. The technique will be demonstrated and then students will be able to follow the instructor without music and then with music. After each time signature is learned, we will practice conducting at different tempos. As students progress, they will have the opportunity to find the tempo independently. Conducting with both one hand and two hands will be covered. I will instruct with empty hands; however if a student has a baton, I can show the student how to properly hold the baton. Week 1- 4/4 time Week 2 2/4 and 3/4 time Week 3 2/2 and 6/8 time signature Week 4- Review. We will learn how to demonstrate cues and dynamics and students are able. Students should be able read music and understand time signatures. In order to properly teach conducting technique, I will need to be able to see the students, so please keep your cameras on.

Students will learn how use the conducting patterns for several time signatures.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Instrumental Music Education from Florida State University. My course work included many hours of conducting classes, observations and practice with varied ensembles. I have also taught band at the middle and high school levels in public and private schools.
