US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner Level
Students will be taught about music theory, and its many facets. This will apply to reading music, understanding how we interpret music, and learning about how these musical building blocks apply to every type of music we hear. This will include topics such as musical notation, rhythmic notation, scales, accidentals, and more throughout our class time. We will meet once a week to learn about our new topic after which students will have homework (normally for completion) to practice what we learned that week. My teaching style is very relaxed. I want students to feel comfortable messing things up and learning from those mistakes together. I want students to be as involved as possible in this online setting, and relating what we learn to their own musical experiences. Learners will get to interact with me once a week in class, and then I am flexible to meet outside of class on occasion to help with subjects. I will also give out my email and have students join a google classroom where they can communicate with me when needed
Learning Goals
Students' learning goal is to begin their journey with music and music theory. This class is the very beginning of that journey, and students should expect to understand music and the theory of understanding and analyzing music more clearly at the end.
