This class is about the process of designing a great app/website. Learners will typically be interested in coding or web design. This is NOT a coding class. Learners will learn what user experience (UX) design and user interface (UI) design are and how they work together. We will learn the pros and cons of apps vs. websites, write down ideas for user flows, sketch for the students' own app/website concept, and each learner will have the opportunity to present their work. We will see an example of a finished clickable prototype and how it was put together in a prototyping software.
Students will learn the process of designing a digital product:
1. Research
2. User Flows - Client and user needs
3. Sketching - Wireframes
4. Design - What assets need to be included
5. Prototyping - Exposure to a prototyping software
The students will also have the opportunity to practice some of the ideation and sketching for an app concept and share their work and ideas. Please bring a notebook/sketchbook and a writing utensil.
Hello! I am BriAnn Ongesel. I have taught online classes for over 9 years and over 4 years here on Outschool. I teach art classes to ages 5-17.
I have my bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from Brigham Young University Idaho. I also studied UX/UI design from California Institute of the Arts. I am currently a freelance designer, online teacher, and mother of four.
I believe that the best learning comes from doing. Students learn from practicing the principles taught and from sharing what they learn with their peers. It is important to have fun in my classes, as well as talking with other students about class concepts and similar interests. Learning is about chasing what excites you and diving into all you can with it.
My hobbies include reading, drawing, and baking. I love good food - including 'nicecream', butternut squash, and cheesecake.
