This is a class for beginners interested in learning the fundamentals of a baseball swing. In the 45 minute session we will cover the following 4 fundamentals: (1) grip and stance (2) stride (3) launching the bat (4) finish. My teaching style is a fun and interactive method. I ask the students questions repeatedly to ensure they can explain what I am asking them to do. I use the mirror method where I will demonstrate, the student mirrors me and then the student will repeat on their own....
This class is designed to give the student a solid fundamental foundation of the Baseball swing. The students will learn the 4 listed fundamentals and the "why" behind it. By giving the student instruction and explaining why we teach something it is my experience that the students have a much greater grasp of the content being taught.
I have been very fortunate to have spent a lifetime playing and coaching this game. I played collegiately and have been a high school coach for the last 25 years. I coached a state championship team in 2008 and was named state coach of the year. In addition to coaching at the high school level I have worked as a private hitting instructor for the past 10 years. I have been fortunate enough to have worked with over 50 students that have been able to go on and play at the college level.
At the conclusion I will give the student 2 "homework hitting drills" that build upon what was taught in the lesson. I would encourage them to spend 5-10 min. a couple of times a week working on what we did in class. I will also send an email with the fundamentals covered in class with teaching points for you the parent.
The student will need a baseball bat of any type for the lesson. I will send a document at completion of lesson with what was covered in the lesson along with 2 homework hitting drills and teaching points.
If your child seems to really enjoy what we did and wants to learn more I encourage you to check out one of my ongoing classes that go more in depth.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students will need an area large enough to swing a bat safely, appropriate footwear, and do simple upper and lower body stretches before class begins. Parental guidance suggested.
