Class Experience

Have you ever wandered through a museum and wondered if you could paint like that?  If so, then take action in this 10-week course to learn all about the Master artists such as Cezanne, DaVinci, Renior, Rockwell, Warhol  and more in an amazing journey through this hands-on class.  Art History, Techniques, and Activities based on the Masters combine to make this art curriculum the most effective way to bring out the hidden artist in each child.  Step-by-step art lessons will guide students into creating their own “masterpiece”. 

Classes will be geared to learning about the artist through slideshows and related activities such as listening to the music of the era, stories and seeing photos of the artists. Then in a follow-up class, students will create their masterpiece with step-by-step instructions.  Parents will want to hang this work in a place of honor as these turn out truly amazing.

Class 1- 2  Paul Cezanne   
Class 1: Slide show to learn about the artist’s different masterpieces.
Class 2: Art Project 
Students will learn about the art element of shape
Media: Tissue paper, starch, construction paper, colored chalk
Students will create a still life masterpiece.

Supplies: 
One piece of white construction paper (suggestion 9” x 15”)
One sheet of newspaper or newsprint for a placemat
Deco Puffs tissue paper squares (one each of blue, red, orange, gold, green)
One paper towel (for wiping fingers)
Colored chalk
Paint brush (preferably stiff and flat)	
Small plastic container/cup for starch
Liquid Starch (or 1 part white glue with 4 parts water)		
Scissors
Glue (white or stick)

Class 3-4  Leonardo DaVinci   
Class 3: Slide show to learn about the artist’s different masterpieces.
Class 4: Art Project 
Students will learn about the art element of line and value 
Media: string and paint
Students will create a botanical print with highlighting and shading

Supplies: 
One 9” x 12” sheet of  construction paper, any pastel color
One sheet of newspaper or newsprint for a placemat
One 36” piece of string
One paper towel (for wiping fingers)
Green and White Tempera paint and one other color (Red, Blue or Purple) thinned to 2 parts paint to 1 part water 
A stir stick, popsicle stick, or spoon
Scissors
Glue

Class 5-6  Pierre Auguste Renior   
Class 5: Slide show to learn about the artist’s different masterpieces.
Class 6: Art Project 
Students will learn the art element of color.
Media: Watercolor Crayons
Students will create an impressionistic landscape with reflection, highlight and shadow.

Supplies: 
One piece of white construction paper (suggestion 9” x 15”)
One sheet of newspaper or newsprint for a placemat
Box of watercolor crayons
Wide sponge brushes
Wide water containers
Glue

Class 7-8  Norman Rockwell   
Class 7: Slide show to learn about the artist’s different masterpieces.
Class 8: Art Project 
Students will learn the art element of detail.
Media: oil pastel, graph paper, marker
Students will create a magazine cover with illustrations.

Supplies: 
One 12” x 18” any color construction paper (no white or black) 
One medium sized black piece of construction paper 
One paper towel (for wiping fingers)
About a 7” circle stencil (use bottom of a mug, cup etc.)
Box of oil pastels
One black marker
Glue 
Pencil

Class 9-10 Andy Warhol   
Class 9: Slide show to learn about the artist’s different masterpieces.
Class 10: Art Project 
Students will learn the art element of color.
Media: Tissue Collage or Construction Paper and Pen
Students will create an abstract “Pop” Art soup can.

Supplies: 
One 9” x 12” sheet of black construction paper
One - 6” x 9” colored construction paper:
   (Choice of red, blue, green, or yellow)
One - 2” x 2” yellow construction paper
One - 6” x 4 1⁄2” piece of white construction paper 
Two - 6” x 4 1⁄2” pieces of colored construction paper  (Choose 2 different colors from red, blue, green, and yellow)

Learning Goals
Students will:
1) Develop and enhance their awareness and understanding of the visual world. 
2) Strengthen their observational drawing skills and recognition of the complexities of design elements: line, shape, color, space etc.
3) Students will be introduced to a wide array of materials and methods.
4) Students will engage and learn about Master artist’s  style and apply their techniques to their own art.
5) Students will learn artistic language specific to the artists time period.

Students will be using paints, glue and scissors. For younger students, they may need help setting up their supplies.
