Class Experience

Have you ever wandered through a museum and wondered if you could paint like that?  If so, then take action in this 10-week course learning all about the Master artists such as Van Gogh, Cassatt, Mondrian, Picasso and Monet in an amazing journey through this hands-on class.  Art History, techniques, and activities based on the Masters all combine to make this art curriculum the most effective way to bring out the hidden artist in each child.  Step-by-step art lessons will guide students into creating their own “masterpiece”. 

Classes will be geared to learning about the artist through slideshows and related activities such as listening to the music of the era, stories and seeing photos of the artists. Then in a follow-up class, students will create their masterpiece with step-by-step instructions.  Parents will want to hang this work in a place of honor as these turn out truly amazing.

Class 1- 2  Vincent Van Gogh   
Students will learn about 9 different Van Gogh masterpieces.
Students will learn about the art element of textures
Students will create a “Starry Night” inspired masterpiece.
Supplies: 
One 9” x 12” black construction paper
One sheet of newspaper or newsprint
One paper towel (for wiping fingers)
One box of oil pastels (broken and peeled work best!)
Glue

Class 3-4  Mary Cassatt   
Students will learn about 8 different Cassatt masterpieces.
Students will learn about the art element of color design 
Students will create a “Young Girl in a Big Hat” inspired masterpiece.
Supplies: 
One 9” x 12” sheet of  construction paper, any pastel color
One 9” x 12” black construction paper
One sheet of newspaper or newsprint
One paper towel (for wiping fingers)
One box of pastels
Scissors
Glue

Class 5-6  Piet Mondrian   
Students will learn about 10 different Mondrian masterpieces.
Students will learn the art element of balance.
Students will create a Mondrian inspired masterpiece.
Supplies: 
Three 3” x 3” squares of construction paper (1 each of red, yellow, blue)
Eight 1” strips of black construction paper
One 9” x 9” sheet of white  construction paper
One scrap piece of paper (for dab of glue)
One Q-Tip
White Glue
Scissors


Class 7-8  Pablo Picasso   
Students will learn about 11 different Picasso masterpieces.
Students will learn the art element of composition.
Students will create a Picasso inspired masterpiece.
Supplies: 
One 11” x 11” sheet of white construction paper
One 12” x 12”  colored construction paper (any color)
One 8.5” x 11” sheet of scrap paper
Tissue
One black marker
Bright colored chalk
Glue Stick (NOT white glue)
Pencil
Scissors

Class 9-10 Claude Monet   
Students will learn about 12 different Monet masterpieces.
Students will learn the art element of color.
Students will create a Monet inspired masterpiece.
Supplies: 
One paper plate
One 9” x 12” sheet of light blue construction paper
One sheet of newspaper or newsprint (as a placemat)
5-6 Q-Tips
Paper towel
Tempera paint (red, yellow and blue)
Crayons
Learning Goals
Students will:
1) Develop and enhance their awareness and understanding of the visual world. 
2) Strengthen their observational drawing skills and recognition of the complexities of design elements: line, shape, color, space etc.
3) Students will be introduced to a wide array of materials and methods.
4) Students will engage and learn about Master artists on style and apply their techniques to their own art.
5) Students will learn artistic language specific to the artists style.

Parental Guidance
Students will be using paints, glue and scissors. For younger students, they may need help setting up their supplies.
