Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 12
Important Notes: All of my classes are inclusive. Classes are suitable for the neurodiverse child. CEFR: B1-B2 or above. In this art & history based class, reviewed from a secular and historical perspective, Learner will travel from ancient times to modern day discovering the works of Master Artists, their styles and media, from classical to post impressionism and surrealism, where the main themes of Christmas and the Holiday are explored through the historical/secular lenses of the paintings by Michelangelo, Raphael, Giotto, and others interpreting its thematic iconography, such as the Nativity, Adoration of the Shepherds, Mother and Child. Learner will develop a solid Art History & Cultural Appreciation through the many examples covered from Italy, Greece, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, France, United Kingdom, and USA among others. Presentation will include some of the great classics like the stained glass windows from European cathedrals, frescoes from Hagia Sophia, paintings from Michelangelo, Raphael, Giotto, Gaugin, Chagall, Botero and much more. The class is structured following an introduction, a rich slide selection, including exchanges, and Q&A. Teaching style is kind and inclusive, emphasizing love for the arts, with captivating learning & discovery. For these reasons and for gauging Learner's interest level and to be able to adjust accordingly, I require open mics and video in my classes so there is a sense of community and engagement with the material. Learners will interact with teacher and each other throughout the class. Class size is kept small (1-3) to allow for kids to express their comments and vital curiosity. This class is one of a group of Art History classes, which follow a theme (dogs, cats, horses, families, Christmas, etc.) and may be taken as a complete group, as in a camp format, or separately. In addition to being kid-friendly, by following the history of art through a unifying theme, pedagogically speaking, it helps the child organize the many artists and styles in a way that is more clear and easier to remember. No previous experience is required.
Learning Goals
Students will gain a solid understanding of Western Art History through the Masters of Art, their main works and evolving art styles, all through a perspective that is secular and historic.
