Homework
1 hour per week. Learners should research the topic and prepare view points for both sides prior to class. Worksheets and Topics are posted in the classroom area regularly.

Class Experience

Welcome to the Debate Skills Course! In this class, students will develop fundamental debate skills, learning how to engage in proper debates and present compelling arguments. They will also cultivate excellent listening skills, enabling them to actively respond to opposing viewpoints and engage in meaningful discussions. Each class will provide opportunities for students to practice speaking, debating, and honing their listening skills.

Course Description:

Fundamental Debate Skills:

Students will learn the essential components of a proper debate, including structuring arguments, presenting evidence, and delivering persuasive speeches.
They will acquire effective listening skills, focusing not only on hearing the other speaker but also understanding their points in order to construct well-reasoned rebuttals.
Through interactive activities and exercises, students will practice articulating their opinions and engaging in respectful and constructive debates.

Sample Topics:

Is it better to have the power to fly than to be invisible?
Is digital technology making lives better for children?
Is television a good influence for children?
The great fur debate: Should fur be banned or allowed?
Cats or dogs: Which make better pets?
Should homework be banned?
Should uniforms be worn at school?
Should humans not eat animals?
Is war good or bad?
Empowering Public Speaking:

Many people, regardless of age, struggle with public speaking, a crucial skill for success in various aspects of life.
Students will learn techniques to overcome anxiety and develop an empowering voice when speaking in public.
The debate and speech club class will equip learners with lifelong argumentation skills that are valuable not only in the workforce but also in everyday communication.
