Class Experience

While I adore and have dedicated my life to African American literature, I hold a degree in English where I specialized in African American literature and wrote my Master's thesis on how high school students interact with African American literature. We will use engaging texts to master the objective of the course--becoming ecstatic about African American literature.
✔️A one-page handout of literary periods ✔️All readings of texts ✔️All handouts for texts
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Note on Controversial Literature:
Some of the literature we read in class may have mature themes, including language, violence, and some minor sexual content. Please contact the instructor immediately if you have any questions or concerns about this. Some books in the classroom library that students have chosen may have controversial aspects in them.
Note on Videos:
We will be watching a few video clips which may include mild thematic content. Please contact the instructor immediately if you have any concerns or questions. Your signature below will signify consent as to your student’s participation in watching videos in the classroom.
Note on Religion:
In English, we will be drawing upon material that relates to various religious traditions, which may be discussed in class. This is done to aid in student learning about other cultures and to give background information on books we are reading in class. This is not an attempt to modify student’s religious or lack of religious beliefs. Any concern about this should be taken up with the instructor.
