US Grade 1 - 4
Students will learn about the great John Lewis and the social contributions he made in society. I will teach them the history of his life and how he helped fight for civil rights with many other great historic leaders. Students will understand the difficulties he faced and how he overcame them while fighting for the rights for African Americans. They will learn the reasons why he is a very well-respected and important historic figure in America. Students will know how he helped fight for voting rights for black people. We will have discussions about this topic. Each student will be able to interact and share their thoughts and feelings. Since this topic is related to African American history we will have discussions about racism, inequality, laws and injustice. Students will understand how this was in the past and how it applies today. They will be able to kindly express their thoughts and opinions on this subject.

Due to this being an African American History class, students will learn about racism, social injustice, slavery and Jim crow laws

As an ESL Teacher and Tutor, I have taught classes on African American history, American Figures, and the civil rights movement for over 4 years. I have experience in teaching this subject to students in elementary, middle, and high school. I also have experience tutoring college students. I have a degree in Communications, so I will be able to communicate and teach this topic without being bias. I was able to research, write essays, and give speeches about this topic throughout college. I was trained by professionals to understand history and the issues surrounding history. I have also taught African American history online to many elementary and middle school-aged students. Most importantly, I will allow each student to express their thoughts and opinions about this topic. This will help them communicate and show what they have learned. It is very important to include all students.
