Description
Class Experience
Students learn how to use Adobe After Effects and create animate objects, titles, and essential visual effects. The student's primary goal is to create several animation projects to show the skills learned in class. The course is five sessions once a week. Each class is one hour long. - Welcome - Group check-in (How are you doing today?) - The core activity is a specific topic from the process of moviemaking. (see the breakdown by day below) * This course is a version of how I teach three...
Foundations for Animation, chroma-key, 2d, and 3d animation, composting, and effects.
I have been working in the film industry and I have a major in Animation and Visual effects. In addition to that, I have been teaching digital media to students from 2nd to 5th grade. Students love the dynamic of making a film. As a film professional, I love to teach the kids about these subjects, I'm very passionate about it. From my own perspective, I engage with the students by talking about movies and how fun is to create them, I also enjoy building collaborative groups and leaders who work together to create something new and unique.
There is an assignment for the students to reinforce the core activity in every class. Week One: Animation project with the basics of After Effects. Week Two: Animation project practicing the use of a camera and 3D world. Week Three: After Effects project practicing compositing. Week Four: After Effects project practicing effects. Week Five: Present the final project. Special final project (to be delivered after the course is over)
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
At the beginning of the class, students have the choice to share the work done from the previous week assignment. This can measure their level of success in class. The final project for the students will be the creation of a short film of two minutes long. I love to create reflections with students and encourage sharing their opinions and ideas about the topics in class, but also what they love about their learning experience.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 4+ hours per week outside of class.
Please be advised we will be using a third-party tool, the app After Effects which requires parents' approval. The teacher always advises students to check with parents that the teacher mention in class. Sometimes the teacher talks about certain films that are not age-appropriate for them; however, the teacher will never show these films' video clips. The content is curated and reviewed for the students. I regularly check the material I show in class with https://www.commonsensemedia.org/, a great tool for parents and teachers to understand what is appropriate to show kids and what age.
