Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this introductory class, students will learn how to find the GCF (greatest common factor) and LCM when adding fractions.

To be successful, it is very important that students know their multiplication tables.

The gradual release method of teaching will be demonstrated during the class session, " I do, we do, you do"
- 15 minutes: I demonstrate how to do a few addition problems on a dry erase board for the students to view and take notes.
- 30 minutes: The students will do some problems on their own with my guidance as I use the dry erase board and also they will play an addition fraction game.
- 15 minutes: The students will complete some problems on their own that I will check for accuracy and give more guidance if needed.

The addition of fractions concept will be introduced whole class through examples and students will demonstrate their learning by working through various problems. We will play a game at the end of class to solidify learning skills in an interesting and engaging way.

The following are the the components that will be reviewed:
An introduction to fractions:part verses whole, building fractions with correct numerators and denominators, and writing fractions
An introduction of equivalent fractions
Adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators and unlike denominators
A short assessment and a wrap up
