Class Experience

In this class students will practice adding and subtracting fractions. It will be helpful for learners to have an understanding of addition and subtraction with whole numbers, as well as some background knowledge of fractions. 

We will spend the first few moments of class creating a community by getting to know one another, understanding class expectations, and discussing our learning target.

The lesson will flow through the following structure:
1. Introduction of the skill of the day
2. Teacher model of the skill of the day
3. Class practice with the skill of the day
4. Individual practice of the skill of the day

We'll close our lesson out by checking in with our learning target to ensure students have understood, and students will also do a self reflection on their effort throughout the lesson!

The content covered in this class will be as follows**:
Day 1: Fractions Vocabulary and Exploration
Day 2: Adding Fractions with Like Denominators
Day 3: Subtracting Fractions with Like Denominators
Day 4: Adding Mixed Numbers with Like Denominators
Day 5: Subtracting Mixed Numbers with like Denominators

Learning Goals

Students will be able to add and subtract fractions with like denominators.
