In this six week class, students will read the New York Times bestseller "A Rover's Story" by Jasmine Warga and will hold a weekly student-led discussion, rotating prepared roles and presenting to the group.

Class experience

US Grade 3 - 6
This specific course is geared toward higher level thinking.  Each literature circle role is directly connected to the 11 elements of critical thinking: big ideas, rules, trends, patterns, language of the discipline, ethics, relationships over time, details, unanswered questions, across disciplines and multiple perspectives.  

Week 1:  Read Chapters 1-6.  Introductions to one another, the book/author and to Literature Circles and expectations.  

Week 2:  Read Chapters 7-14 and complete you job assignment in preparation for class discussion.  

Week 2:  Read Chapters 15 - 21 and complete you job assignment in preparation for class discussion. 

Week 4:  Read Chapters 22 - 30 and complete you job assignment in preparation for class discussion. 

Week 5:  Read Chapters 31 - 38 and complete you job assignment in preparation for class discussion. 

Week 6:   39 - Author's Note and complete you job assignment in preparation for class discussion. 
Homework Offered
You will be asked to read approximately 30 pages per week and complete your "job" in order to be ready to present to the group each week.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Informal/observational assessment and feedback are available upon request from parent.
