Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner - Advanced Level
In the Swiftie Book Club, we'll delve into the themes of Taylor Swift's music and explore stories that complement each era of Taylor's discography. We'll discuss themes of love, loss, friendship, self-discovery, and much more!

Each month, we will read a book that connects well with a specific Taylor Swift album. After we read, we will come together to discuss our thoughts on the book, connect the book to the themes present in the Taylor Swift album, discuss the literary elements present in both the book and in Taylor's lyrics, and compare and contrast the plot lines in the book to the plot of the stories told in Taylor's music.

Our monthly reading schedule is:
September: TS1 Era --> "Stargirl" by Jerry Spinelli
October: Fearless Era --> "Ella Enchanted" by Gail Carson Levine
November: Speak Now Era --> "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio
December: Red Era --> "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green
January: 1989 Era --> "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" by Jenny Han
February: Reputation Era --> "The Hate U Give" by Angie Thomas
March: Lover Era --> "The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl" by Stacy McAnulty
April: Folklore Era --> "Echo" by Pam Muñoz Ryan
May: Evermore Era --> "The Witch Boy" by Molly Knox Ostertag
June: Midnights Era --> "The Midnight Hour" by Benjamin Read & Laura Trinder
July: The Tortured Poets Department Era --> "Fish in a Tree" by Lynda Mullaly Hunt

Each book club session will follow a similar structure:
1. Introduction: A brief overview of the chosen book or album.
2. Discussion: Open-ended discussions about the book or album's themes, characters, and plot.
3. Activity: Fun and engaging activities related to the book or album, such as song analysis, writing prompts, or quizzes.
4. Wrap-up: A summary of the key points discussed and a preview of the next session.

Through a combination of teacher-led instruction, discussion, and interactive activities- this book club is interactive and engaging. I believe in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and opinions. I'll use humor, storytelling, and real-world examples to make the material relatable and interesting, and I will encourage active participation from each of our book club Swifties!

Learners will have ample opportunity to interact with me during the sessions and outside of sessions. This includes:
- Discussion: I'll facilitate open-ended discussions and encourage everyone to participate.
- Activities: I'll lead interactive activities and provide feedback on learners' work.
- Questions: I'm always available to answer questions and provide additional explanations.
- One-on-one time: I'm happy to meet with learners individually to discuss the material or provide additional support.
