'A Deeper Look Into Simplifying Fractions - Have No Fear 4' is the fourth Fractions Class of more yet to come! Fractions have always been the most difficult math concept for students to understand, and my belief is that it is because each of the concepts introduced is rushed. Students need to be given the opportunity to practice every step of each concept learned, in order to make sense of the concept. Therefore, students enrolling in this class need to have a thorough understanding of: what a fraction is; the role of the numerator and denominator (all from Fraction Intro Have No Fear 1); how to convert improper fractions and mixed numbers back and forth (both from Have No Fear 2); and how to create equivalent fractions (from Have No Fear 3). In this class, students will practice simplifying fractions using a variety of strategies (i.e., greatest common factor, lowest common multiple, and questions they can ask themselves to simplify fractions).
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to simplify fractions into their lowest form using a variety of strategies.

In the event that there is time left over at the end of the class, we may play a friendly game of Kahoot (where each player enters the game as an anonymous player) so that the students can review their new learning in a non-threatening format. For those students who prefer not to play, or who are unable to access Kahoot, they can participate in the review through the main page with the teacher, where they can see the questions and the option of answers provided for them to choose from.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello,
Thank you for checking out my profile page. I’m excited to meet you! Over the past 15 years I have been teaching Elementary School students all subjects with the exception of French and Music. The last 5 years I was an Elementary School Principal. I chose to go into education because I was not a typical learner when I was young. School was difficult for me because I could not focus and teachers just couldn’t engage me enough for me to listen to them. As an adult I figured things out and was able to go to University as a mature student. I made a choice to become a teacher and an administrator so that I could help students like myself learn a different way. My philosophy is “It’s not how smart you are, it’s how you are smart!” I’m excited to help you learn all the information you struggle to learn. ”See you soon!
