Simplifying Fractions and Mixed Numbers

In this class, students will learn how to simplify fractions and mixed numbers. This skill is important to have when adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions. 

I will teach the students different strategies to simplify and model these strategies for them. 

Then, students will have the chance to practice the strategy that makes the most sense to them. We will work together as a class on a few problems. During this time, students can ask questions and I can correct any mistakes they are making as well as remind them of the steps. 

At the end of the class, students will take a check-in to see how they ado simplifying fractions and mixed numbers on their own. This check-in allows students to review their answers and see what they got correct and incorrect. We will review any that were commonly missed as a group as well.
