This self-paced class, designed for 5th Grade English Language Arts, is split into three parts for convenience, though they can be taken in any order. Over four weeks, learners will engage with a variety of materials and activities posted weekly. ⌚Flexible, self-paced learning. 🎉Weekly interactive lessons and quizzes. 📚Opportunities for self-assessment and skill development. 💻This class fosters independent learning and strengthens key language arts skills without the need for teacher contact or feedback. Learning goals : Alignment to Common Core Standards for 5th Grade ELA: ⭐Lesson 1: Mystery Texts Comprehension CC.5.R.L.1: Quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text. CC.5.R.L.2: Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text, including how characters in a story or drama respond to challenges or how the speaker in a poem reflects upon a topic; summarize the text. CC.5.R.F.4.a: Read grade-level text with purpose and understanding. ⭐Lesson 2: Direct Quotations and Dialogue CC.5.L.1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking. CC.5.W.2.d: Use precise language and domain-specific vocabulary to inform about or explain the topic. CC.5.R.L.2: Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text, including how characters in a story or drama respond to challenges or how the speaker in a poem reflects upon a topic; summarize the text. ⭐Lesson 3: Villainous Verses Poetry CC.5.L.5.a: Interpret figurative language, including similes and metaphors, in context. CC.5.R.I.6: Analyze multiple accounts of the same event or topic, noting important similarities and differences in the point of view they represent. CC.5.R.F.4.a: Read grade-level text with purpose and understanding. ⭐Lesson 4: Introduction to Proofreading CC.5.L.1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking. CC.5.W.9.a: Apply grade 5 Reading standards to literature (e.g., “Compare and contrast two or more characters, settings, or events in a story or a drama, drawing on specific details in the text [e.g., how characters interact]”). CC.5.R.F.4.a: Read grade-level text with purpose and understanding. CC.5.L.4.b: Use common, grade-appropriate Greek and Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of a word (e.g., photograph, photosynthesis).
