Class Experience

US Grade 5
In this three day camp learners will learn debate techniques via presentation and discussion on day one. On days two and three we will engage in lively debate as learners will be asked to pick a household object which they need to defend as the most useful in a zombie apocalypse. Learners will bring the item as a 'show and tell' as they debate their classmates to defend their chosen item.

Learners will need to conduct research to include factual information about the usefulness of their chosen item and write a speech that is 5-8 minutes long in length when spoken. This speech will be presented to their peers on days two & three, learners will be split into two groups to allow each learner time for presentation and during this time we will be listening and responding.

Day One - Debate techniques : Expression and Delivery, Reasoning and Evidence, Listening and Responding
Learners will be taught the structure of the PEEL Paragraph (Point, Evidence, Explain, Link)
Day Two - Debate group one
Day Three - Debate group two

Learners will not need any prior knowledge to attend this class.
**If the class enrolment is less than 5 we may use day two to write a speech during the class using information presented.
