Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will need to read for 20 minutes every night. There will also be some small projects each week. Students will complete assignments and will be writing each week. Students will need to practice their spelling and vocabulary words throughout the week.Class Experience

*FLEX classes have no live meetings* What is ELA? ELA stands for English Languarge arts and it encompasses reading, writing, listening and speaking. In this semester long FLEX course students will work on their basic ELA skills. This is a continuation of ELA skills semester 1 Each Monday I will post short instructional videos as well as the work to be completed for the week. Students will be able to watch the videos and complete the work at their own pace throughout the week. Homework will need to be completed by Friday each week to receive feedback from the teacher and occasionally other students. Topics: 1. Reading 2. Writing 3. Spelling 4. Vocabulary Reading: (This section of the class is not for those who are behind in their reading- 1:1 tutoring is recommended to help students who are behind) 1. Read for 20 min/ night (students will need their own books... I will post ideas... I will provide some books that focus on certain reading strategies) 2. Fill out reading log 3. Answer comprehension Questions 4. Book Report (share books that they enjoy with others) 5. Sight Words 6. Vowel Study (This includes syllables, vowel pattersn, irregular words) 7. Reading Strategies (Theme, Author purpose, Sensory details, Literary vs Informational texts...) Writing: 1. Handwriting will be encouraged 2. Organization 3. Topic Sentences 4. Supply List
Students will need books. They will need to be able to read books at their level each night. These can be found at libraries, bought by level or found on online libraries such as Epic! and Reading A-Z. Students will need notebooks. They will use these for writing (it is suggested to use handwriting paper), spelling and vocabulary. Students will be making their own dictionary. They may use one notebook for all of this or you may get different notebooks.
