There are many sensitive topics that will be covered in this class. We will be talking about the Holocaust and discussing concentration camps and kill centers. We will also talk about different minority groups such as women, African-Americans, Japanese-Americans and Native-Americans. There will be discussions on the influx of women in the workforce and how this was responded to and how it impacted society. We will also talk about African-Americans and their contributions, both on the Homefront and overseas. This is pre Civil Rights and there was a great deal of discrimination and racist prejudice at this time. Another sensitive topic will be the Japanese Internment Camps. For this topic we will be looking at the graphic novel "They Called Us Enemy" by George Takei. We will also be talking about Native- American Code Talkers and their contributions. Another sensitive topic that will be covered is the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There are always many horrors with war and there were many in World War II. We will address these in a reflective manner where students will be encouraged to make connection and reflect on how they would feel and what decisions they would make in different situations.
