2nd Grade Math PRACTICING TO PRESERVE IT! Goal ⭐ In every class, my goal is to cultivate a positive and engaging environment that meets the needs of each student, regardless of their level. If I notice a student struggling, I strive to assist them discreetly. For students who complete their work quickly, I enjoy providing them with more challenging questions to keep them engaged. Class Setting 🎒 In my class, I will be using my own custom-made worksheets and Google Slides to teach students along with purchased materials. Math The class will begin with times tables as a warm-up activity, and then we will move on to an interactive lesson to learn or review the topic. We will work on several problems together, and then students will have the choice to work on a problem independently. While students are encouraged to work independently, they will not be forced to take on their own problems. Reading The class will begin with sight and vocabulary words as a warm-up activity, and then we will move on to an interactive lesson to learn or review the topic. We will work on a reading story together along with comprehension questions, and then students will have the choice to work on a question independently. While students are encouraged to work independently, they will not be forced to take on their own question. 🗨️Chat feature will be available because it gives students the chance to ask questions discreetly, respond to prompts, or just chat about how the class is going. 🏠At the end of class, students will be given optional homework or review work. Parents can decide whether their child completes the entire assignment or just a few problems. You know your child's capabilities best, so you can make the best decision for them. Who Is This Class For? 😊 This class is designed for 2nd graders, but can also be used for 1st graders who want to be challenged or as a review for 3rd graders. Experience 👩🏫 After obtaining my Masters Degree in Elementary Education in 2009, I taught 6th grade for five years followed by 3rd grade for another five years in a public school. During that time, I focused on tailoring my teaching to the individual needs of each student, ensuring that they received the support they needed to succeed. For the past 4 years, I have been teaching online, working with students of different ages across various platforms including Outschool. ------------Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding the class.------------ Math Class Schedule (see Reading Below Math) Operations and Algebraic Thinking Week One - Week of Sept 1 Word problems using addition and subtraction using 2 digit numbers Week Two - Week of Sept 8 Add and subtract up to 20 Week Three -Week of Sept 15 Working with groups of objects to determine odd and even numbers Week Four - Week of Sept 22 Arrays up to 5 rows and 5 columns Numbers and Operations Week Five - Week of Sept 29 Place Value up to 100 Week Six- Week of Oct 6 Recognizing Place Value Blocks Week Seven - Week of Oct 13 Understand word numbers Week Eight - Week of Oct 20 Skip counting by 5s, 10s and 100s Week Nine - Week of Oct 27 Determining the name, expanded form, and numeral for a given number Week Ten - Week of Nov 3 Comparing numbers using greater than, less than, and equal to Week Eleven -Week of Nov 10 Adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers Week Twelve - Week of Nov 17 Adding 4 numbers that have 2 digits each up to 1000 Week Thirteen - Week of Nov 24 Adding or subtracting 10 or 100 to any given number up to 900 Week Fourteen - Week of Dec 1 Measuring using a ruler Week Fifteen - Week of Dec 8 Measuring the same object using different unit of measurement Week Sixteen - Week of Dec 15 Word problems using addition and subtraction within 100 to solve word problems involving measurement Week Seventeen - Week of Dec 22 Using a number line to add and subtract within 100 Week Eighteen - Week of Dec 29 Telling time to the nearest 5 minutes Week Nineteen -Week of Jan 5 Counting money dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies and using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately Week Twenty -Week of Jan 12 Word problems involving counting money Week Twenty One - Week of Jan 19 Review Game Operations and Algebraic Thinking Week Twenty two- Week of Jan 26 Word problems using addition and subtraction using 2 digit numbers Week Twenty three- Week of Feb 2 Add and subtract up to 20 Week Twenty four -Week of Feb 9 Working with groups of objects to determine odd and even numbers Week Twenty five - Week of Feb 16 Arrays up to 5 rows and 5 columns Numbers and Operations Week Twenty six - Week of Feb 23 Place Value up to 100 Week Twenty seven- Week of March 2 Recognizing Place Value Blocks Week Twenty eight- Week of March 9 Understand word numbers Week Twenty nine - Week of March 16 Skip counting by 5s, 10s and 100s Week Thirty - Week of March 23 Determining the name, expanded form, and numeral for a given number Week Thirty one - Week of March 30 Comparing numbers using greater than, less than, and equal to Week Thirty two -Week of April 6 Adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers Week Thirty three- Week of April 13 Adding 4 numbers that have 2 digits each up to 1000 Week Thirty four- Week of April 20 Adding or subtracting 10 or 100 to any given number up to 900 Week Thirty five- Week of April 27 Measuring using a ruler Week Thirty six- Week of May 4 Measuring the same object using different unit of measurement Week Sixteen - Week of May 11 Word problems using addition and subtraction within 100 to solve word problems involving measurement Week Seventeen - Week of May 18 Using a number line to add and subtract within 100 Week Eighteen - Week of May 25 Telling time to the nearest 5S Reading Schedule Main Goal- To enjoy reading and build understand of different text Week 1-Vocabualry, Phonics Comprehension, Characters Week 2-Vocabualry, Phonics Comprehension, Setting Week 3-Vocabualry, Phonics Comprehension, Fact and opinion Week 4-Vocabualry, Phonics Comprehension, Fiction Week 5-Vocabualry, Phonics Comprehension, Non-Fiction Week 6-Vocabualry, Phonics Comprehension, Key details Week 7-Vocabualry, Phonics Comprehension, Main Idea Week 8-Vocabualry, Phonics Comprehension, Context clues Week 9-Vocabualry, Phonics Comprehension, Text Features Week 10-Vocabualry, Phonics Comprehension, Poems

Teacher expertise and credentials
Mississippi Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hey there! I'm excited to share that I have a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and spent a wonderful 10 years teaching in a public school. I had the pleasure of teaching 6th grade for 5 years and then taught in a 3rd grade classroom for the last 5 years. In my classes, I used small groups and tailored instruction to meet the diverse needs of my students.
I'm really passionate about encouraging reading for fun and for learning. I truly believe that when students have a solid foundation in reading, learning becomes a whole lot easier. And you know what? Math has now become my new favorite subject to teach! I love coming up with different ways to help struggling learners and to challenge those who are stronger in math. I firmly believe that by making math and reading enjoyable, we can inspire a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.
On top of that, I'm also incredibly fortunate to be able to stay at home with my amazing 5-year-old triplets every day. They are an absolute joy!
