Class Experience

US Grade 1
Students will build spelling confidence by practicing spelling by learning spelling patterns and applying them to words in a process called grapheme mapping. For each word we will tap out the sounds, map it and then graph the word. Each week we will be building our spelling skills by focusing on a different spelling pattern and learning about different syllable types. Each class will start with a phoneme segmenting warm up to get the brain ready to listen to the different sounds in each word, then we will talk about specific sounds and the graphemes (letters) that represent those sounds, lastly we will use this knowledge to spell words and graduate to writing those words into sentences. On thursdays we will have a independent assessment where students will be able to check their knowledge.
