Assessment
Informal assessments will be given throughout our sessions to see what your child's next steps will be.Class Experience
US Grade Preschool - 2
Does your child need support with growing as a reader? I will communicate with you and assess your child to best understand their needs. I will use running record assessments to determine what phonics support they need and how I can improve their comprehension. Comprehension skills include summarizing using the beginning/middle/end, understanding character traits, theme, making inferences and more. Students will understand the importance of rereading to better understand the story and to pick out evidence for comprehension questions. We will read a short story on your child's instructional level (one level above their independent reading level). Books will be chosen from the Reading A-Z website. The story will be shared on the screen and I will ask your child to read aloud with my support. Skills will be practiced using Google Slides presentations created by me and worksheets will be provided, as needed. I will work with you to discover your child's likes and interests so I can pick a story that is engaging. These sessions are held 1:1 so your child will get my full attention. Throughout these sessions, I will be communicating with you to discuss your child's progress.
Learning Goals
Your student will grow as a reader - both in phonics and comprehension. The learning goals will be based on assessments given during the first session.

Teacher expertise and credentials
New York Teaching Certificate in Special Education
Master's Degree in Education from Fordham University
Hello, I am so excited for the opportunity to work with your child. As a new mom, I have decided to step away from the classroom but I wanted to continue to use my passion for teaching young students.
I graduated from the University of Hartford in 2014 after studying Elementary and Special Education. I received my Master’s in Special Education from Fordham University in 2016. I have been teaching full-time since 2014 in various grades - from Kindergarten to 3rd Grade. I have experience with remote teaching, so I will be able to create an engaging experience for your child during our virtual session.
While I do offer some small-group classes, my favorite thing to do on Outschool is 1:1 tutoring - both in ELA and Math. I love teaching foundational reading and math skills. For example, I enjoy guided reading lessons that teach students how to decode words and better comprehend the story. I also enjoy teaching sight words through games. In Math, I enjoy teaching all operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) through visuals and manipulatives. It is crucial that students understand the foundational skills so they are set up for future success.
Having classroom experience, I will be able to assess your child to see what their individual needs are and how to best support them. An example of an assessment would be a Running Record - which helps to determine your child’s reading level. I will communicate with you after each lesson and discuss the next steps we will work on to help your child succeed.
*Most of my tutoring schedule is done by request, so please send me a message and we can coordinate a time :)
