This ESL-friendly class offers a one-on-one reading help session for students who love cats and nature! Together, we will read original stories about Pumpkin and Marigold the Cats and sometimes Poochie the Pup shows up as well. These friends have many adventures and they discover interesting things about nature as they make new animal friends. We will first review important vocabulary words, checking for pronunciation and understanding. Then we will read a story together, getting vital reading practice and decoding difficult words. We will discuss the story as we go. With each story we finish, we will complete a story map to explore story elements such as characters, setting, summarization, themes, and main ideas. After each story, we will have a step-by-step drawing session where we will draw something from the story. Want to try it before committing? Hello! Thank you for stopping by! I love students of all ages and I love teaching a variety of topics. Some of my favorite classes to teach are reading, nature, and science. I try to create a positive and encouraging atmosphere so learners feel comfortable in participating. I want students to have fun while learning!
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Minnesota State University, a Minnesota teaching license, and a 160 hour TEFL certification.
I have been teaching and guiding children since 2000 as a preschool/childcare provider, an ELA teacher in public school classrooms, and an ESL teacher in online classrooms.
I love teaching, but I also love being a student! I take as many classes as possible on whatever subject piques my interest. Teaching and learning are my life!
When my three daughters are home from college we love going for hikes, cooking together, and of course, snuggling our two funny cats, Pumpkin and Marigold.
