I will work with learners on:
Language skills -- vocabulary, spelling, and grammar
Reading skills -- comprehension strategies, inferences, and analysis
Writing skills -- topic sentences, argumentation, evidence integration, and transitions

I can also provide help with a limited range of extracurricular writing assignments, such as personal statements or college application essays.

Students will be able to express their own ideas in written essays.

Other Details

Learning Needs
I can adjust to your student's needs. I've worked with students with ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and ASD. If your student has specific learning needs, we'll work together to create a personalized plan.
Parental Guidance
We will use Google Drive to go over assignments collaboratively, Purdue OWL to go over style and citation guidelines for any essays your students bring, and No Red Ink to practice sentence level grammar concepts. We may also use the Oxford English Dictionary or Merriam Webster Dictionary if students have vocabulary questions. Google Drive and No Red Ink require free accounts. The other resources are free websites that do no require a login. No Red Ink can be left out of the course in favor of custom-made practice exercises if you or your student prefers. The sensitivity and topics discussed beyond English itself will be based on the texts your student is working with in class.
Supply List
The majority of supplies will come from your student's classwork or personal questions. The resources included above (Google Drive, No Red Ink, Purdue OWL, and the two dictionaries) will be used to address their questions and collaborate. For more targeted practice, I can create custom worksheets for your student.
External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Sources
For best results, I ask that students share which books/films/other texts their English class is covering. Knowing this will allow me to prepare beforehand and provide clear, specific guidance.
