1-on-1 Tutoring: Beginner and Intermediate German

One of the most important parts of learning a language is having consistent opportunities to practice. In these sessions, I'll work 1-on-1 with your student so they can strengthen their German with fun exercises and actual conversations.

Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Beginner - Intermediate Level
This is 1-on-1 tutoring tailored to the students' needs and based in their normal class content. Beginners will engage in practice activities like color identification, bingo, matching, etc. to build basic vocabulary skills. We'll also practice short sentences and basic phrases. More intermediate students will review grammar concepts and engage in practice conversations about the topics they're learning vocabulary for -- such as school, work, hobbies, and family.

All instruction will be given in English, all practice will be done in German.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to recognize, understand, and produce familiar German words.
Students will understand fundamental German grammar rules about word order and declension and will be able to use those rules to say/write basic sentences.

Learning Needs
I can adjust to your student's needs. I've worked with students with ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and ASD. If your student has specific learning needs, we'll work together to create a personalized plan.
Parental Guidance
The content covered in this course beyond German language itself will largely be dependent on the materials from the student brings from class; however, they should expect some discussion of things like hobbies, school, family, food, and culture in both their home country and German-speaking countries. Some units may cover the cultural traditions around holidays such as Christmas that have religious origins. In addition to students' coursework, we'll use custom materials for practice games like German bingo. We will also discuss tools like Google Translate and when they are and are not appropriate to use. We will not use Google Translate or other translation software in tutoring sessions. We will use two English-German dictionaries: dict.cc and dict.leo.org. These are free websites that do not require an account to use.
Supply List
Most materials will come from students' home classes, but I will also create custom games and exercises for students to practice with based in their needs and interests. I will supply things like practice sentences, bingo cards, etc.
